I'm hoping someone can help with this issue, besides offering the suggestion of reformating my harddrive. All of this sudden, when I woke up this morning and booted up my computer, jaws wouldn't talk. I ran the repare tool, tried switching synthesizers, and tried manually ending the process and then restarting jaws with no success. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled jaws, and still, it won't speak. Window eyes works fine, so I'm not sure what the problem is. Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas as to what the problem could be? If so, a solution would be even better! Thanks for reading.

Try uninstalling video intersept, then reinstalling it. It can be found in tools video intersept manager under the jaws sub menu. If that doesn't work try running system restore to like 4 days ago, if that doesn't work I don't ahve any other ideas then a reformat.

When you uninstalled, did you try physically deleting all the associated folders, from both the program files folder, and from the various aplication settings folder (both default and your user)? I'm not sure that it'd do anything, but if you're really running out of options it could be worth a try. What precisely happens when you try to start jaws? Does the program itself load, or screech a horrible terrible error message of doom?

I'll try the video intercept manager idea tomorrow, thanks. It seems like jaws doesn't load all the way, because it typically takes up about 42000k of memory, but now it only takes up about 6000. If I let jaws sit there for long enough, it will tell me that the freedom scientific application for jaws has encountered an error and needs to close.

It's definatly a video intercept problem, because whenever I uninstall the intercept manager, jaws works, but not perfectly. I can not read what I've typed iedit boxes in IE, ms word, notepad or any other program. Is that function directly related to the video intercept manager? I'm still baffeled as to why this would all the sudden happen. Thanks Jared for setting me o track!n ed

Hmm, I typed this out once already and the internet ate it. Let's try again:
You talking about it only reading some things and not being able to read what you've written at all makes me think of a time when my video drivers got messed up. You may try uninstaling them and reinstalling them if you use any special drivers for your video card.

Not any that I'm aware of, I'll admit I haven't a clue where the drivers are located, nor how to reinstall them. I don't know where the DVD for this computer is located anymore, so that could present some problems. Maybe this would be a good time to start window eyes, huh?

What version of Internet Explorer and Jaws are you running. If I remember, you had said jaws 7. If you had upgraded your I.E. to 7 then bring it back to I.E. 6 and that might fix the edit box problems.

No sir, still running IE 6. I haven't a clue why jaws started doing thiis, it was fine one day, and then not the next. I hadn't installed anything new, so I know it's not a program or something that's screwing with it.

Interesting, interesting. IN thejaws tools there is the display chain manager option available, listing the available video drivers; additionally, you can find information about installing dcm components.
